Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria now want the body of the late freedom fighter Dedan Kimathi Exhumed for a joint burial with his widow Mukami Kimathi who died in the night of Thursday, May 4.
Mukami died at a hospital in Nairobi where she was receiving treatment after developing breathing difficulties.
Moreover, CS Kuria while condoling with the family of the late Mukami Kimathi stated that the British government should help Kenya to identify the exact place the Mau Mau freedom fighter’s remains were buried after he was executed.
“I believe firmly that it is still possible probably with the support of the British government to identify the exact place he was buried so that as we mourn Mukami, we should have Kimathi’s remains exhumed for a joint burial,” he said.
While speaking at the Lee Funeral Home where he was flanked by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Moses Kuria said there was need for all unanswered questions on the struggle for Mau Mau to be resolved.

Moreover, until her death, the late Mukami had been seeking to have the remains of her husband found and exhumed from Kamiti Maximum Prison to be buried at his home.
According to government records, Kimathi was captured by the colonial administration in 1956 at Kahigaini in the Aberdare ranges and executed in 1957 in Kamiti Prison.
“I do not want to die before being shown the exact place where my husband was buried. I want to see the remains of my Kimathi before I go. I do not have long to live, and this matter has been a thorn in my flesh,” Mukami has stated in a media interview.
Her body lies at the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.
