Protests erupted at Alliance Girls High School after allegations of misconduct against a teacher.
On July 10, 2025, Alliance Girls’ alumni gathered outside the school in protest, despite a heavy police presence.
The alumni body says their previous demands to the school and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) have not been met.
“We are here to ask why some of our demands have not yet been met, despite our earlier statement,” said one of the alumnae.
The uproar follows revelations by Africa Uncensored journalist and Alliance Girls alumna Christine Mungai, who disclosed that a teacher named Peter Ayiro had engaged in interactions with students and former students that crossed emotional and, in some cases, physical boundaries.
Protest at Alliance Girls
According to the former students at Alliance Girls, their protest notice was not acknowledged.
“They left us with no legal path to speak out against what has been happening in our school, to our sisters. So, we did what survivors and allies have always done: we showed up anyway,” read part of the statement that the Alumni association released on July 10, 2025.
The alumni argue that the issue goes beyond one teacher, describing it as decades of enabled harm, with predators shielded by silence and disguised as mentors, in a system that prioritizes its reputation over students’ safety.

Alumni Issues Demands
The former students have issued the following demands:
- Immediate removal of Mr Peter Ayiro from all roles and responsibilities within any education setting, and especially Alliance Girls High School permanently.
- A public statement of accountability from the Board of Management, Teachers Service Commission, and the Ministry of Education.
- An independent, survivor-informed investigation into how this abuse was allowed to continue, including the roles played by teachers, principals, and BOM members.
- Temporary relief from duty for all staff named in safeguarding failures pending the outcome of investigations.
- Transparent safeguarding reform in Alliance Girls and similar institutions, including functioning reporting channels that are not tied to the school, trauma-informed care, and survivor support.

Peter Ayiro on the Spot
The Africa Uncensored article revealed that despite sexual abuse allegations against Peter Ayiro, he remained in his position and continued to play a prominent role within the school and its Christian Union (C.U.).
Further raising concerns not only about individual misconduct but also about institutional inertia and possibly, protection.
“What made me look deeper was a specific revelation: that in 2021, news of an extramarital affair between the teacher and a former student had reportedly reached the leadership of the teacher’s church community, pastored by his father,” read part of the article.
