The Social Health Authority (SHA) is mourning the death of its manager, who lost his daughters in a tragic road accident.
According to an obituary published on Wednesday, October 29, Nick Murunga Tsuma died while receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital on October 22.
Tsuma served as the Branch Manager at the Social Health Authority (SHA) and formerly headed the Industrial Area Office.
Nick Murunga is primarily known for his role as a plaintiff in a high-profile legal case concerning the tragic death of his two daughters, where he served as the administrator of their estate during the lawsuit filed against Acacia Crest Academy, the school whose bus was involved in the accident.
Career and Education Background of Nick Murunga
Nick Murunga attended Kenya High School and later pursued his studies at Kenyatta University.
Before his career in the health sector, Nick volunteered with the Wildlife Clubs of Kenya from January to March 1993, assisting with environmental conservation activities.
At the Social Health Authority, Nick Murunga oversaw operations under the Integrated Health Areas Office, focusing on improving coordination, compliance, and service delivery within the national health coverage framework.

Previously, Nick Murunga headed the Industrial Area Office before its closure.
Personal Tragedy and Legal Battle
On August 1, 2012, his two daughters, Lisa Murunga and Felicia Murunga, were among several children who lost their lives in a fatal road accident involving an Acacia Crest Academy school bus along the Nairobi–Mombasa Road.
Police reports tabled in court revealed that the bus driver made an illegal U-turn, leading to a collision with a matatu, after which the bus overturned into a ditch. Several children died on the spot, including Tsuma’s daughters.

Following the tragedy, Nick Murunga filed a civil case (Civil Case No. 218 of 2013) at the High Court of Kenya, seeking damages under the Law Reform Act and the Fatal Accidents Act.
The court ruled in his favor, awarding him Kshs 1,722,995 in compensation for pain and suffering, loss of expectation of life, loss of dependency, and special damages.
The judgment recognized his role as the administrator of his daughters’ estate.
Nick Murunga is married to Nancy Mwendwa, who works with Nina Tours, and together they have four daughters, including their late daughters.
