A family from Murang’a County is seeking justice for their kin who tragically lost his life following a hit and run along the Thika Superhighway.

In a statement, a relative disclosed that the deceased named Daniel Wanyoike was travelling from Thika to Nairobi on February 4, 2024, when he met his untimely death.

“A soldier has fallen. A young man who loved and served the Lord is gone. Wanyoike Daniel was traveling from Thika to Nairobi on Sunday morning. At around 7 am, at Ruiru, Gwa Kairu, his car was rear-ended by an unidentified bus that fled the scene,” read part of the statement.

According to the statement, Wanyoike’s car swerved following the impact, ending up hitting a guardrail on the busy highway.

The statement further revealed that the impact of the crash resulted to his tragic death while several other family members were left injured.

Wanyoike’s family pinned an appeal to members of the public who could have any information that could lead to identification of the bus that caused the crash.

“We are appealing to the general public, if you were in that area that morning or on that bus, please help us identify it,” the family pleaded.

A recent update on the deceased’s Facebook account informed his friends of the tragic loss, confirming that he met his untimely death on Sunday.

His cousin while mourning him, described him as a loving family man noting that he was fresh in marriage.

“Rest in peace, my friend and cousin. May God protect and provide for your family. You didn’t even get to enjoy your marriage for a year, and you were still recovering from losing your mom early last year. It’s heartbreaking,” he mourned him.

Another user named Essy Karanja expressed sorrow noting that she was yet to come into terms with the sudden loss leaving her with so many unanswered questions.

Sarah Munene on her part reacted, “This is beyond words and the pain inexplainable it cuts deep especially knowing so well that somebody did this and is walking scot-free.”

2024 Fatalities

The crash adds to the string of tragic accidents reported on various roads since the beginning of 2024 that have left fatalities behind.

At least four people died on Saturday, February 3, in an accident where a matatu they were travelling in collided with a trailer at Marina area along the Nyeri-Nyahururu Road.

The matatu operating under the management of MTN Sacco was carrying members of the Catholic Women Action from St Peters Gaitega,  Murang’a County, who were from visiting the Subukia Marian Shrine

The trailer, on its part, was carrying sand and hence the impact in the crash.
