The victims, employees of the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC), were heading home on Thursday evening when the incident occurred just a few meters from the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.
According to preliminary reports, the bus driver allegedly crossed the railway line without checking, leading to a devastating collision.
The train dragged the bus for over 200 metres, causing extensive damage and loss of life.
The accident, which happened at around 5:00 p.m., brought transport along both the Naivasha-Kasarani Road and the Naivasha-Nakuru Railway line to a halt as police and Red Cross teams rushed in to assist.
Naivasha OCPD Antony Keter confirmed the incident, stating that eight people died on the spot, while 19 survivors were critically injured and taken to various hospitals in Naivasha.
A witness, Simon Kimani, noted that poor visibility due to heavy rainfall may have contributed to the accident.
