President Donald Trump has abruptly canceled a planned weekend trip and instead returned directly to the White House following a scheduled appearance in New York.
According to an updated presidential schedule released by the White House, Trump canceled the weekend trip to his Bedminster golf club on Friday, May 22, in New Jersey.
The revised itinerary marks the second major personal event the president has pulled out of within days, after he earlier confirmed he would also skip Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding in the Bahamas due to ongoing government matters.
Trump cuts New Jersey trip short
Earlier Friday, the White House schedule showed Trump was expected to depart Rockland Community College in Suffern, New York, and travel to Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey for the weekend.
However, a later update removed the Bedminster stop entirely and instead indicated Trump would head straight back to Washington following his speech in New York.

Under the revised schedule, Trump was slated to depart the White House for New York before delivering remarks at Rockland Community College at around 3:15 p.m. He was then scheduled to return directly to the White House afterward.
The administration did not immediately provide a public explanation for the sudden schedule change.
The development comes amid heightened attention surrounding Trump’s recent comments about remaining in Washington as tensions surrounding Iran and broader national security issues continue to dominate the White House agenda.
Earlier on Truth Social, the president announced that he would not attend Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding to Bettina Anderson, despite having previously indicated he hoped to make the trip.
“While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so,” Trump wrote.
“I feel it is important for me to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this important period of time.”
Skipping son’s wedding
Trump had appeared uncertain on Thursday about attending the wedding during remarks in the Oval Office on Thursday while discussing his administration’s rollback of Biden-era refrigerant regulations.
“He’d like me to go, but it’s going to be just a small little private affair, and I’m going to try and make it,” Trump told reporters when asked about the wedding plans.
“This is not good timing for me. I have a thing called Iran and other things,” he added.

Trump also acknowledged the political scrutiny surrounding the decision, joking that he could not avoid criticism, whether or not he attended.
“That’s one I can’t win on. If I do attend, I get killed. If I don’t attend, I get killed by the fake news,” the president said.
Donald Trump Jr. and Anderson are expected to hold a private wedding ceremony on an island in the Bahamas, according to reports from Page Six.
The couple had reportedly considered holding a White House wedding before ultimately deciding on a smaller private ceremony as geopolitical tensions intensified.
President Trump’s latest schedule change has intensified speculation about developments the White House is monitoring, particularly in the Middle East and Iran.
The White House has not announced any additional public events for Trump over the weekend beyond his return to Washington Friday evening.
