President Donald Trump flew to Nevada and Arizona on April 17 and 18, 2026, for a two-day trip centered on domestic issues and the 2026 midterm elections.
The White House first described the visit as part of a year-long tour on affordability, but the events quickly turned into direct appeals for Republican votes in November.
In Las Vegas, Trump held a roundtable on the “No Tax on Tips” policy at a hotel conference room with about 200 attendees.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent joined him on stage with local workers and business owners affected by the policy. The room included many supporters in MAGA gear.
“Thanks to our tax cuts, this week thousands of Nevada waiters, waitresses, casino dealers, bartenders, bellman, barbers, caddies and valets receive the biggest tax refunds of their entire lives,” Trump said.
Trump stated that nearly half of all tax filers have used new cuts or deductions in the Republican bill. He linked the policy directly to the midterms.
“And we got to win the midterms. If we don’t, these policies are going to be taken away from you,” Trump said.
A 38-year-old tax preparer who attended the event told the Daily Caller he filed about 285 tax returns this year. He said the average refund increased by $1,700 per person because of the policy.
The Las Vegas stop followed news of a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. Trump answered questions on foreign policy before the domestic event began. Attendees included a 30-year-old finance worker who voted for Trump in 2024 for the first time. He expressed concern about U.S. involvement in the Middle East and wanted troops brought home.

Phoenix Rally Focuses on Midterms
On the second day in Phoenix, Trump headlined Turning Point USA’s “Build the Red Wall” rally at Dream City Church. More than 3,000 people filled the venue. Erika Kirk of Turning Point USA spoke first and received a standing ovation.
Trump told the Daily Caller just before the event that Iran had “agreed to everything” and a deal looked close. During his speech he mentioned the development briefly but kept the main focus on November’s elections.
“This is the choice for every voter in the midterms. Democrats want to drag America down, destroy our country, put it into crime, poverty and squalor, really the squalor of a third world nation,” Trump said.
He told the crowd that Republicans want to build the country up and make families safer and wealthier. Trump danced to “YMCA” at the end of the Las Vegas event and left for his hotel there before flying to Phoenix.

Tyler Bowyer, chief operating officer of TPUSA Action, told the Daily Caller that the group has identified Nevada, Arizona, and New Hampshire as states to form a “Red Wall.” He said Turning Point USA has been in contact with the White House about these states and that Trump’s appearance showed their importance for the midterms.
Trump on SAVE America Act
The trip took place as Republicans deals with stalled bills in Congress, including the SAVE America Act, and internal disagreements over foreign policy and gas prices. Trump used the events to remind voters of his 2024 promises on taxes, the border, and avoiding new wars.
On the flight home aboard Air Force One, Trump answered reporter questions late at night. He said he supports tying the SAVE America Act to FISA renewal. The western swing showed Trump shifting attention back to domestic priorities nine months before the midterms. He urged supporters to vote Republican to protect the policies passed during his term.
