4 Abducted Youths Freed, Kibet Bull Remains Missing

Four of the six abducted youth have been found even as the whereabouts of cartoonist Gideon Kibet (Kibet Bull) remains unknown.

Billy Mwangi, Peter Muteti, Bernad Kavuli and Rony Kiplangat were released on Monday, January 6, 2025.

Mwangi and Muteti had met their families physically while the others reached out to them.

Mwangi, is currently at their Majengo home, Embu town with his parents.

It is reported that Mwangi has been taken to hospital for a checkup.

“Thank God Larry. The boy is back physically intact,” his dad Gerald Mwangi said.

Similarly, Peter Muteti who was abducted on December 21 at his apartment outside Nairobi has been released.

Muteti was also released on the morning of Monday, January 6.

His family has confirmed that they are currently with him although he is quite disoriented and not able to talk and give interviews.

“Peter has been released. He is currently with family. He is quite disoriented and not able to talk and give interviews at the moment,” the family said.

Kavuli & Rony Released

Journalist Hanifa Farsafi has confirmed the release of social media user Bernad Kavuli.

Kavuli was found in Kitale while Rony Kiplangat was found in Machakos County.

The three are among the six people who were recently abducted. 

Gideon Kibet (Kibet Bull) and Steve Kavingo are yet to be found.

How Billy Mwangi was Abducted

During a court session on December 31, Gerald Mwangi, the father of Billy Mwangi, narrated how he was abducted.

Gerald said Billy, a 24-year-old college student, was captured by four hooded men at a barber shop in Embu town.

He explained that he was taken away as he awaited to be shaved and bundled into a waiting car by the men who arrived in a station wagon and a double-cabin pick-up truck.

According to Gerald, the men refused to respond when asked what Mwangi had done.

Since then, the family has been searching for him.

His abduction came after he posted a controversial AI-generated image depicting President William Ruto lying in state.

Courts Order IG to Present the 6

The High Court ordered the immediate release of six individuals who were reportedly abducted.

In the ruling, Justice Bahati Mwamunye summoned Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to explain the whereabouts of the six individuals.

Besides, he directed Kanja to produce the six in court on December 31,2024.

However, Kanja did not appear in court and none of the victims was produced in court.

The IG sent a representative.

Their release also comes as Kenyans plan to take to the streets on Monday, January 6, 2025, to demand the release of abducted individuals.
