Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives from Nairobi Regional Headquarters have recovered several suspected stolen cars and motor vehicle parts at a yard in Utawala Estate, Nairobi.
In a statement on Thursday, March 7, DCI said the detectives were pursuing a case of a stolen motor vehicle from a garage along Kangundo Road and arrested three suspects during the recovery.
The suspects are believed to be members of a well-organized criminal ring that targets vehicles left for repair at garages.
“In the case, Matthew Odhiambo Ndacha, Joseph Otieno Ngeso and Stephen Kabinku Mwangi are believed to have conspired with the yard owner to steal a Toyota Allion Reg. No. KBM 157S whose owner had left it at the Kangundo Road repair shop, before starting to dismantle it for sale as spare parts,” read the statement in part.
According to DCI, the owner of the yard going by the name Peter Mwangi Njuguna was not present during the invasion.
Several recoveries including the reported Toyota Allion and other three unidentified Toyota Probox cars were made.
The detectives also recovered a Toyota station wagon chassis CE107-5008143, rear lights for the dismantled KBM 157S and eight box lorry containers.
A Mistubishi truck, assorted vandalized engine parts and ten sets of vehicle registration plates were also recovered during the exercise.
Other recoveries included a Toyota Allion fixed with a Toyota Premio bonnet and boot and fixed with registration plates KBY 146F.
“The suspects are being interrogated with a view to identify more members of the criminal syndicate,” the statement explained.

Warning on Carjackers Tricks
The DCI had previously warned taxi operators of a new trick used by criminal gangs to steal vehicles.
According to notice, DCI explained that the criminals pose as rich customers, hire taxi services for either long distances or trips only to turn violent robbers along the way.
“The “customer” negotiates with the taxi driver on the charges for the trip, and while on the way communicates with one or more accomplices who will be conveniently waiting along the route,” said DCI.
DCI stated that the drivers often fall victims and let new passengers onboard since they are promised extra inconvenience fee for the stops.
