Fire broke out at Jerusalem in Dagoretti South Constituency in Nairobi on Wednesday, October 11 afternoon.
The Kenya Red Cross (KRC) Nairobi Branch reported the incident on its official account stating that rescue teams are working to put out the fire
“A fire outbreak has been reported at Jerusalem in Waithaka, Dagoretti South, Nairobi. Response teams activated,” read the statement in part.
No injuries had been reported at the time of publishing. The cause of the fire was also yet to be established.
Fire Incidences in Nairobi
This comes barely three days after the Kenya Red Cross Nairobi Branch reported that around twenty households were affected in two fire incidents that occurred on the night of Sunday, October 13, 2024.
In an incident alert, the agency stated that the first fire was reported at Riverside Village in Viwandani, Nairobi County, at around 8:05 p.m.
The agency mentioned that the Nairobi City County (NCC) disaster management and the Community-Based Disaster Response Team (CBDRT) were at the scene.

In an update at around 9:47 p.m., the Red Cross branch confirmed the fire had been contained, but around twenty houses were affected.
“Viwandani, Riverside Fire Update: Fire has been contained by the Nairobi Fire Brigade alongside the Community-Based Disaster Response Team. Approximately 20 households have been affected,” the Red Cross said.
This fire in Viwandani occurred nearly a month after a previous incident in the same area on September 16, 2024. Around 10:04 p.m., another fire broke out in Shauri Moyo, prompting an immediate response from the firefighting department and CBDRTs, who worked quickly to contain the blaze.
“Another fire alert in Shauri Moyo near Jua Kali junction. Fire brigade and CBDRTs on scene. More updates to follow,” the Red Cross reported.
A similar fire incident took place on September 10 near Burma Market in Shauri Moyo, affecting two business premises but resulting in no casualties.

Nairobi Governor on Fire Incidences
On September 2, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja led an NCC disaster management team to assess the damage from a fire that destroyed traders’ properties on Desai Road in Ngara.
Sakaja stated that the visit aimed to evaluate the fire damage, review the county government’s response efforts, and plan support measures for the victims who lost their properties in the incident.
Nairobi has experienced several fire incidents in recent months, prompting the Nairobi Red Cross branch to conduct fire-extinguishing training in various parts of the county.
On September 19, a fire broke out in the Muslim area of Kawangware, just three days after another fire incident occurred at Mukuru Kwa Njenga near Muhindi Mweusi, Nairobi County. Similarly, a fire erupted at Jua Kali Green Corner in Embakasi on September 14. The NCC fire brigade responded swiftly and managed to extinguish the blaze, reporting no casualties, although 24 residential houses were completely destroyed.
Additionally, a fire outbreak was reported at Umoja 3, near Chokmatt Supermarket, on August 29, 2024.
