Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stated that if Chief Justice Martha Koome is impeached, President William Ruto will not be allowed in Meru County.
Speaking at a church service in Meru County on Sunday, February 23, 2025, Gachagua accused President Ruto of bribing individuals within the Judiciary to facilitate her removal.
“Tunakuambia Rais, kama unapanga kufukuza Martha Koome, basi baki Nairobi usije Meru tena,” loosely translated to mean
“We are telling you, Mr. President, if you plan with your allies to remove Chief Justice Martha Koome, stay in Nairobi and never set foot in Meru again,” Gachagua said.

The former Deputy President called upon the Meru residents not to allow the ouster of Koome.
Gachagua further alleged that the plan to remove the Chief Justice is aimed at sidelining the Mount Kenya region from key leadership positions.
“This is too much now. How do you purge the leadership of an entire community that made you President? You have planned to eliminate the Mount Kenya community’s leaders—those with strong principles—and replace them with puppets,” Gachagua alleged.
