The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has issued four Gazette Notices outlining key preparations for the February 26, 2026, by-elections.
The notices cover nominated candidates, tallying centres, certified voter registers, and approved polling stations in Isiolo, Embu, and Kakamega counties.
The move signals the final stages of electoral readiness ahead of the 26th February By Elections.
IEBC Gazettes List of Nominated Candidates for By-Elections
The announcement, made through Gazette Notice No. 1720, confirms the individuals cleared to contest for Member of County Assembly (MCA) and Member of National Assembly (MP).
“Nominated Candidates for Purposes of the By-Elections for Member of National Assembly for Isiolo South Constituency and Members of the County Assemblies for Muminji Ward and Evurore Ward, in Mbeere North Constituency, Embu County, and West Kabras Ward in Malava Constituency, Kakamega County, scheduled to be held on Thursday, 26th February 2026,” read the notice.
Muminji Ward
In Muminji Ward, Mbeere North Constituency, Embu County, the by-election was called following the vacancy of the MCA seat after Newton Karish resigned to contest Mbeere North parliamentary seat.

Seven candidates have been nominated to contest:
- Ngari Boniface Kariuki – Devolution Empowerment Party
- Ngari John Nyaga – United Progressive Alliance
- Njeru Cosmas – National Economic Development Party
- Njiru Joseph Ngari – Umoja na Maendeleo Party
- Njiru Peterson Njeru – United Democratic Alliance (UDA)
- Njuki Charles Kiura – The We Alliance Party
- Nthiga Zachary Mbogo – Kenya Moja Movement Party
Evurore Ward
In Evurore ward, Duncan Mbui resigned to contest for the Mbeere North Parliamentary seat and has attracted ten aspirants.

- Kigoro Albert Muchira – Democratic Party
- Mate Johnson Mukui – Independent
- Muriithi Martin Mukundi – National Economic Development Party
- Njeru Joseph Nyaga – People’s Liberation Party
- Njeru Kennedy Nthiga – United Green Movement
- Njiru Eston Fundi – Umoja na Maendeleo Party
- Njiru Virginia Thaara – Kenya Moja Movement Party
- Nyaga Duncan Muratia – United Democratic Alliance (UDA)
- Nyaga Kenneth Njeru – Chama Cha Kazi
West Kabras Ward

In West Kabras Ward, Malava Constituency, the position fell vacant following the election of David Ndakwa to the national assembly.
Six candidates are contesting for the position including:
- Indimuli Edward Inzofu – Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)
- Khaemba Bramwel Wasike – Democracy for the Citizens Party
- Khisa Nivah Musa – Democratic Action Party–Kenya
- Masini Shivoko – Democratic National Alliance
- Mukhwana George Musini – National Economic Development Party
- Shalakha Elphas Kainanga – United Democratic Alliance (UDA)
Isiolo South Constituency
In Isiolo, the position became vacant following the demise of Tubi Bidu Mohamed, who passed away on November 12, 2025, while receiving treatment at The Nairobi Hospital.
For the by-election, the position has attracted three candidates, including:
- Fayo Isack Abduba – National Economic Development Party (NEDP)
- Tubi Tubi Mohamed – United Democratic Alliance (UDA)
- Tupi Bina Mohamed – Jubilee Party (JP)
