Kenya Airways has confirmed that its flight KQ784, operating from Nairobi to Cape Town, safely landed on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, before experiencing a tyre burst during landing.
iIn a statement dated August 4, the airline said all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated from the aircraft and taken to the airport terminal.
“Kenya Airways PLC (KQ) confirms that on 04 August 2026, at approximately 15:30 Hrs local time, our flight KQ784, on a scheduled service from Nairobi to Cape Town, safely landed and experienced tyre burst upon landing,” the statement read in part.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 pm local time in Cape Town, involving the aircraft’s tyres shortly after touchdown.
Kenya Airways Cancels in Nairobi Cape Town Flight
Kenya Airways said flight KQ784, which was operating a scheduled flight from Nairobi to Cape Town, touched down safely at approximately 3:30 pm local time before the tyre burst occurred.

The airline confirmed that the aircraft crew responded according to their safety procedures and ensuring passengers and crew were able to leave the aircraft safely after landing.
The flight was part of Kenya Airways’ international operations connecting Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and Cape Town International Airport in South Africa.
Following the incident, Kenya Airways cancelled the return flight KQ785, which was scheduled to operate from Cape Town back to Nairobi.
The airline said the cancellation was necessary to allow its engineers and technical teams to inspect the aircraft and carry out the required repairs before the plane resumes operations.
Kenya Airways apologised to passengers affected by the disruption and said it would provide assistance to travellers whose journeys were interrupted.
The airline said affected passengers would be contacted directly regarding alternative travel arrangement.

The national carrier said its priority remained ensuring the safety and welfare of passengers and crew while addressing the aircraft issue.
“As a result of this incident, we have cancelled the return flight KQ785 as our engineers and technical team work to get the aircraft fixed. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this incident has caused. We thank our customers for their patience, cooperation and support, and our crew for their professionalism. The safety and well-being of our crew and guests is always our top priority,” read the statement.
