Kenya Airways has suspended some of its flight operations due to harsh weather conditions, citing safety concerns for passengers and crew.
In a statement dated February 22, the corporate communications department of Kenya Airways cancelled select flights to and from New York following a Blizzard Warning and severe weather affecting parts of the United States.
According to the statement, heavy snowfall in New York has significantly disrupted operations at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), and therefore, the airport authorities have suspended all flight operations for specific periods effective Sunday, 22 February 2026.
“We wish to inform our customers that due to a Blizzard Warning and severe weather conditions affecting several parts of the United States, including heavy snowfall in New York, operations at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) have been significantly impacted and the airport authorities have suspended all flight operations for specific periods effective Sunday 22nd February 2026,” read the statement in part.
Kenya Airways On the Flight Suspensions and Resumption
The airline notified its customers of the suspension and clarified that the affected flights include KQ 002 from Nairobi to New York, scheduled for 22 February 2026, and KQ 003 from New York to Nairobi, scheduled for 23 February 2026.
Additionally, they said that the suspended operations will resume once weather conditions improve and it is safe to fly.

“We plan to operate KQ 002 on 24 February 2026 and KQ 003 on 25th February 2026 as scheduled once the weather improves and is safe to operate,” the airline noted.
Kenya Airways has apologised for the inconvenience caused and thanked customers for their patience and understanding.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience and understanding,” the statement read.
Safety and Updates Amid Flight Disruptions
Kenya Airways said the safety and comfort of its customers and crew remain its highest priority.
The airline added that its teams are actively monitoring the situation and engaging with relevant airport stakeholders.
