Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has announced the passing on of Lamu County Commissioner Louis Kipng’etich Rono.
In a statement on March 22, 2024, Kindiki revealed that Rono died following an illness.
“The Ministry of Interior and National Administration is saddened by the sudden death of Louis Rono, the County Commissioner for Lamu County following an illness,” read part of the statement.
CS Kindiki further mourned the deceased as a person who served the country with dedication and patriotism for 28 years without blemish.
In addition, Kindiki sent his thoughts to the family of the departed commissioner during this painful moment of profound loss.
According to the CS, the late Rono served the nation with distinction in various stations and ranks throughout his career.
“The Late Rono served with distinction in various ranks and stations throughout his career and will be remembered for leading the Lamu County Security and Intelligence Team in sustaining the war against terror in the Boni Enclave,” added CS Kindiki.

Lamu County Commissioner mourned
On his part, Principal Secretary (PS) for Interior Dr. Raymond Omollo mourned the late commissioner as a dedicated and diligent National Government Administrative Officer (NGAO).
“He will be remembered for his selflessness in the service of others and the country. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends,” said PS Omollo.
At the same time, Lamu West Member of Parliament (MP) Stanley Muthama while mourning the deceased said that he was an integral part of the community in matters security, peace, public participation, cohesion and integration.
Rono’s death comes after another top Police boss died in a tragic road accident that happened in Kitui on Friday, March 11, 2024, night.

The Limuru sub-county police commander Philip Mwania, who was also a senior superintendent of police (SSP), died after his car was involved in a head-on collision with a lorry.
Kitui County Commander Leah Kithei confirmed the accident which happened around 11.30 pm, just a few kilometers from Kitui town.
“He was driving towards Chuluni from Kitui general direction and on reaching the location of the accident he lost control of the motor vehicle and swerved to the opposite lane where he collided head-on with the said lorry which was being driven to the opposite direction,” read part of a police report.
The late died instantly following the accident which occurred near the River Nzeeu bridge along the Kitui – Mutomo road.
His Toyota fielder model car was extensively damaged at the front side following the collision with a Mitsubishi FH lorry.
