Makadara Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti who was shot by a police officer is dead.
Her family and colleagues have stated that she passed away on Friday, June 14, at 11:00 Pm while receiving treatment at the Nairobi Hospital
Kivuti has succumbed to injuries sustained after she was shot by Londiani OCS Inspector Samson Kipruto in the chest and left hip during a live court session.
According to her family, her body has been moved to Lee Funeral Home.
Earlier on Friday, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) male representative at the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Omwanza Ombati made an urgent blood appeal to help save her life.
At the time, the magistrate was admitted at Metropolitan Hospital in Buruburu, Nairobi. however, she was later rushed to the Nairobi hospital when her condition worsened.

Chief justice Martha Koome Mourns Monica Kivuti
In a statement, Chief Justice Martha Koome confirmed the demise of Kivuti, sending her condolence to the family and loved ones of the magistrate.
Consequently. she said that the Judiciary Leadership Team had convened an emergency meeting over the matter.
“I wish to confirm to the Nation that Hon. Monica Kivuti, Principal Magistrate, Makadara Law Courts has lost the fight against the extensive injuries sustained during an open gun attack in Court.

“The Judiciary family stands in solidarity during this deeply traumatic time and calls for sensitivity and compassion as we share in grief. May Hon. Kivuti’s soul rest in eternal peace,” she stated.

Details of the Shooting
According to a police statement released on Thursday, June 13, the 55-year-old OCS shot at Magistrate Kivuti who had declined a request to release his wife through cash bail.
The accused, identified as Jeniffer Kabiru, was facing charges for obtaining money by false pretense amounting to Ksh2.9 million.
Further, police stated that two other officers who tried to remove the Magistrate from the scene and secure the courtroom also sustained gunshot wounds.
“He entered inside the court through the magistrate’s door and fired shots towards the magistrate injuring her on the chest and left hip,” said CJ Koome in a previous statement.
Following the incident, CJ Koome ordered that the Makadara Law Courts remain closed until Monday, June 17 for security reinforcement.
“All matters at the Makadara Law Courts will be heard virtually and those requiring physical appearance mentioned at the Milimani Law Courts.
“The Judiciary together with the Office of Inspector General and connected NCAJ actors will review the security protocols regarding handling of accused persons in the courtroom,” said the CJ.
