The Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen, has broken his silence on the Shoe attack on President Ruto.
Speaking to the media on May 7, 2025, the CS stated that it is important for every Kenyan to understand that the security of the President is a matter of national importance and a priority for the government.

“The incident that occurred during President Ruto’s rally is currently under investigation. We are examining whether it was a security lapse, an intentional act, or a deliberate attempt to harm the President,” said Murkomen.
Further, he said that the security agencies are fully engaged and remain steadfastly vigilant in addressing this matter.

Murkomen on Kasipul Murder Case
The Cabinet Secretary disclosed that the individuals responsible for the incident are now firmly on the radar of law enforcement agencies.
“It is shocking to know the gruesome manner in which this heinous crime was committed. The government guarantees the safety of all Kenyans. Those perpetrators and collaborators will all be apprehended and will be severely punished to deter those with similar intentions from future crimes,” he said.

He commended the immediate action taken by the security agencies in apprehending the individuals involved in the incident.
Further, he noted that their rapid response is a testament to the advanced intelligence capabilities, technological resources, and collaboration with the public that have been developed within the security framework.

Youths Free to Critique Govt
Further, the Cabinet Secretary said that the youth are encouraged to voice their opinions and critique the government. However, he cautioned them to be wary of leaders who seek to exploit their numbers for the purpose of inciting chaos and unrest.
‘It is not a mistake to motivate the youth to advocate for good governance. I fully support this approach, as it will contribute to the growth and maturity of our democracy,’ the CS said.

He added that when the youth constructively challenge the government, pointing out areas where improvements are needed, it not only strengthens the democratic process but also provides a much-needed push to enhance governance and drive economic progress.”
This comes just days after former President Uhuru Kenyatta repeatedly urged the youth to stand up for their rights and actively participate in shaping the future of the nation.
“The youth should be at the forefront in fighting graft and calling for good governance. This should be done without malice. The youth’s voices will be heard,” he added.
