A medic working at the Kisii Teaching Referral Hospital and a lady believed to be his lover were found dead on Friday, November 29, inside a rented house in Nyanchwa, Kisii County.
According to an OB statement obtained by The Kenya Times, the police established that the deceased Vincent Bosire Nyambunde was a staff at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH) while the other deceased was Angellah Moraa Ongeri aged 28 years who had recently arrived from the USA.
The landlady of the apartment they had rented, and the deceased medic’s cousin reported the case to the police after concerns about his whereabouts.
As per the report, Bosire- who was admitted at KTRH and discharged on November 26 was not reachable on his phone and had locked his house from inside.

Upon making the report, Police based at Nyanchwa Police Station visited the scene and established that the door was locked.
They later broke into the house where they found two bodies lying on a mattress in the living room.
Police reported that Vincent’s body appeared to be relatively fresh when they arrived at the scene. However, the lady’s body was swollen.
Additionally, they found used syringes next to the bed, suggesting that the couple could have taken injections.

Law enforcement officials have requested pathologists to investigate the scene to help determine the cause of death.
“The pathologists will establish how the two died. The woman’s body appeared somewhat decomposed, while the man’s was fresher,” said a police officer.
Doctors from KTRH arrived and confirmed that one of the deceased Vincent Bosire was a staff at KTRH.
Their bodies were transferred to the KTRH mortuary, where an autopsy is pending.

It was also established that the deceased persons have been in a relationship for the last three years.
Doctors who have recently died of suicide
Nyambunde’s death comes days after a medical intern, Dr Francis Njeru, a medical intern (pharmacist) at Thika level 5 hospital committed suicide after working for only four months.
Njeru was reportedly subjected to exhausting 36-hour shifts without pay during his time at the hospital.
Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union (KMPDU) Secretary General, Davji Atella expressed strong dissatisfaction regarding this issue, highlighting the negative impact such conditions have on healthcare workers. He called for immediate changes as the medical fraternity to continue mourn his death.

Another medic by the name Dr. Desree Moraa tragically took her own life on September 22. It is believed that her decision was significantly influenced by workplace frustrations.
The fraternity of medical interns reported that Dr. Moraa was struggling to meet her basic needs, working shifts longer than 36 hours without adequate rest or nutrition, and facing constant pressure from her supervisors.
