Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has announced that the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) transfer window will be extended from two weeks to one month, giving students more time to apply for inter-university and inter-institutional transfers.
Speaking during the KUCCPS placement results on July 8th 2026, at the Edge Convention Center Hotel in Nairobi, the CS announced that the decision is expected to benefit students who may want to change their allocated institutions or courses as part of aligning their career goals with their preferred programmes.
“As part of career alignment, I know that some students who have been placed today may wish to transfer from one university to another. In order to allow adequate time and opportunity for such transfers this year, we will be extending the transfer window from the period that is normal of two weeks to one month,” said Ogamba.
Ogamba said the extension would provide adequate time and opportunity for students to make decisions regarding their placements.
The transfer process will continue to be handled online through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) Student Portal, with students required to follow the official application procedure and meet the set requirements.
Ogamba Extends Transfer Period to Give Students More Time
Ogamba said some students who had received placements may want to transfer to different institutions due to various considerations, including career alignment and programme preferences.

He explained that the government had decided to extend the transfer period beyond the normal timeline to ensure students have enough time to submit their requests.
Students will now have a longer period to initiate transfer requests through KUCCPS after receiving their placement details.
However, approval of transfer requests will depend on factors such as availability of spaces in the preferred institution, programme requirements, and acceptance by the receiving institution.
Ogamba Directs KUCCPS to Allow Late Applications for Students Left Out
Speaking during the placement process, Ogamba acknowledged that some eligible students may have failed to apply for placement within the initial application period due to various circumstances.
The CS said the government had directed KUCCPS to develop mechanisms to identify students who missed the opportunity and to allow them another chance to apply.
“Still, some of them may have missed the opportunity to apply because of other circumstances. I have requested KUCCPS to come up with a study program to track and find out where these students are. But if there are those who missed the opportunity to apply for any other reason, we are going to give them a chance to reapply. And we have directed the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service to immediately devise a mechanism to allow later applications for placement,” Ogamba said.
