President William Ruto has nominated John Cox Lorionokou for the Registrar of Political Parties position after the vacancy left by Ann Nderitu’s appointment as a commissioner for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
At the same time, the President has nominated Agatha Wanjiku Wahome to be the Assistant Registrar of Political Parties.
The duo were shortlisted by the Public Service Commission (PSC) after the application window closed on 5th August 2025.
Ruto Nominates Candidate for Registrar of Political Parties Position
John Cox Lorionokou has served as a Constituency Elections Coordinator at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) since January 2010.
While Agatha Wanjiku Wahome has served as Acting Director of Research, Electoral Boundaries, and Risk Management at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
She has also held roles at the electrol body as Integrity Assurance Officer and Data Protection Officer. In these positions, she has overseen research, risk management, and electoral reforms.

Additionally, Agatha worked at Equity Bank Limited in Nairobi County for over eight years. She began as a Finance Officer from July 2002 to August 2004, then served as an Operations Officer from September 2004 to March 2005, supervising head office staff and managing branch control accounts.
From March 2005 to December 2010, she was an Internal Auditor, contributing to risk-based audit planning, promoting process improvements, and monitoring the implementation of audit recommendations.
Wahome holds a Master’s degree in Agribusiness from Strathmore Business School (2018–2024), a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Finance from Kenyatta University (1997–2018), and a High School Diploma from St. Anne’s Girls High School, Kiriari (1992–1995).

Functions of the Registrar of Political Parties
The functions of the Registrar of Political Parties shall be to:
- Register, regulate, monitor, investigate and supervise political parties to ensure compliance with the Act.
- Administer the Fund.
- Ensure publication of audited annual accounts of political parties.
- Verify and make publicly available the list of all members of political parties.
- Keep and maintain a register of members of registered political parties.
- Maintain a register of political parties and the symbols of the political parties.
- Ensure and verify that no person is a member of more than one political party and notify the IEBC of the findings.
- Certify that an independent candidate in an election is not a member of any registered political party.
- Certify that the symbol intended to be used by an independent candidate in an election does not resemble the symbol of a registered political party.
- Regulate political party nominations in accordance with the Political Parties Act.
- Certify that the names appearing in a party list are the names of members of the political party presenting the party list.
- Train political party election agents upon request and financing by the political party.
- Investigate complaints received under the Act.
- Perform any such other functions as may be conferred by the Act or any other written law.
