President William Ruto has addressed cancelling the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) because of its connection to the Adani Group.
Speaking while attending a church service in Kericho, the Head of State said that the noise from Kenyans is normal and will only fuel the progress he wants to make.
“I can see that you are worried. Why would you be worried? This will not go back. This noise is normal. It’s like being in church, when the choir sings is there a problem?
“Is it not part of the service? But we continue, even when other people are speaking in tongues. That is how you know that if I had chosen the easy road, there would be no development,” said Ruto.

Additionally, the president boasted of the strides the new health insurance fund had made so far, saying that it was already ensuring quality medical care to Kenyans.
“We have already paid the first Ksh5 billion to repay NHIF debts, we are paying another Ksh3 billion this coming week. All the burden of Taifa Care spent in the last month, we have pain in full this week,
“We want to ensure that we don’t have any pending debt to hospitals so that Kenyans get the services that they need,” he added.

Adani’s Connection to SHIF
Adani has been linked to the consortium that was awarded a Ksh104 billion contract for the implementation of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Kenya through the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).
Apeiro Kenya Technologies, a company that is part of the consortium, has ties with the Indian-based company Adani Group.
According to the Ministry of Health, the consortium is led by Safaricom PLC, which is responsible for the implementation of an Integrated Healthcare Information Technology System (“IHTS System”).
“The consortium includes global patient care digitization firm Apeiro Limited (Apeiro Digital), and Enterprise technology firm Konvergenz Network Solutions Limited (KNS),” the Ministry noted in an earlier statement.
The Integrated Healthcare Information Technology System IHTS System will also cover other components including the National Health Information Exchange (HIE).
