President Donald Trump warned Wednesday that the United States could resume military strikes against Iran if he rejects the final terms of a new agreement, while sharply criticizing former President Barack Obama’s 2015 nuclear deal during the final day of the G7 summit.

Speaking to reporters in a press gaggle, Trump described the circulating memorandum of understanding (MoU) as preliminary and non-binding. “No, it’s not final,” he said.

“It’s a memorandum of understanding. And if I don’t like it, we’ll go back to shooting at them, dropping bombs on their head.”

He added: “If I don’t like it, if they don’t behave, we’ll go right back to dropping bombs right smack in the middle of their head. OK? Because they’ve misbehaved for 47 years.”

The comments came hours after G7 leaders expressed support for the interim U.S.-Iran framework, which aims to end recent hostilities, reopen the Strait of Hormuz to shipping, and initiate further talks on Iran’s nuclear program.

A formal signing is expected soon, possibly Friday in Geneva.

Trump contrasted his approach with Obama’s Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which the U.S. withdrew from in 2018.

He accused the prior administration of effectively bribing Iran with cash payments, including a $1.7 billion settlement delivered in pallets of currency aboard a Boeing 757 due to banking sanctions.

“Nobody could have made this deal,” Trump said. “I mean, the JCPOA done by Obama, he handed him a billion-seven in cash, gave him hundreds of millions of dollars, gave ’em billions and billions of dollars.” He claimed Iranians mocked Obama, calling him “a stupid son of a b*tch.”

U.S. officials have emphasized that the new MoU does not involve direct American taxpayer funding for Iran, though it may facilitate the release of frozen Iranian assets and reconstruction support from regional partners.

Details remain limited, with the full text expected to be released in a formal setting.

The agreement follows a period of escalated conflict that included U.S. military actions and Iranian responses, disrupting global energy markets. Oil prices have since declined amid optimism over the reopening of shipping lanes.

G7 leaders, including those from Britain, France, Germany, and others, welcomed the deal as a potential breakthrough but urged full implementation and transparency.

The summit also addressed broader issues, including the situation in Lebanon and pressure on Russia over Ukraine, but the Iran agreement dominated discussions. A senior U.S. official confirmed virtual signatures by Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf earlier in the week.
