A visible mark appeared on President Donald Trump’s left hand as he participated in a working session with G7 leaders on Tuesday, prompting renewed online discussion about his health.
Photographs from the summit in Evian-les-Bains show a jagged purplish line on the back of Trump’s left hand while he gave a thumbs-up gesture.
The image spread quickly on social media, generating comments about possible causes ranging from minor injury to medical procedures.
Trump, who turned 80 on Sunday, has a documented history of skin discoloration on his hands. His right hand is routinely covered with makeup to conceal bruising, which he has attributed to frequent handshakes and regular aspirin use that increases susceptibility to bruising.

One commenter on X described it as “a skin tear with dried blood underneath.” Others suggested it could result from IV infusions or cracking makeup layers. Several users dismissed the attention, noting Trump’s age and describing it as a common issue for an 80-year-old.
The White House has been contacted for comment but has not responded publicly.

In a January interview with New York Magazine, he explained that he shifts his hand during meetings to signal he is listening while waiting to speak.
Presidents are not required to release medical records, but Trump has come under political pressure to do so after repeatedly criticizing Joe Biden’s fitness during the previous campaign.
Online reaction mixed skepticism with familiarity. Some users pointed to Trump’s transparency about aspirin use and prior bruising as sufficient explanation. Others called for more details from the White House medical team.
Trump continues his international engagements at the G7, where discussions focused on global economic and security issues. He is expected to return to Washington later this week.
