Meal delivery service Bolt Food has expanded its operations in Nairobi by partnering with over 250 restaurants.
In a statement, the online food ordering and delivery platform indicated that the move is aimed at meeting the increasing demand for Iftar meals.

The platform has introduced exclusive Ramadan menus, extended delivery hours, and discounts of up to 50 percent to cater to Muslim customers breaking their fast.
Some of meals featured are Muslim traditional favorites such as Biryani, Kebab, Bhajia, Samosas, Grilled Meats, and Fresh Juices.

With the demand for food deliveries surging in the evenings, Bolt Food says it has focused on high-demand areas, including Eastleigh, Mathare, Parklands, South B, and Imara Daima, where meal orders typically spike during Ramadan.
“As Ramadan begins, we have previously seen an influx in orders, especially in areas such as Eastleigh and Mathare, Parklands, Nyali, and South B and Imara Daima, in the evening.

“This has led us to add over 200 more restaurants with a variety of Iftar cuisine to cater to this demand,” the statement read in part.

The food delivery platform has onboarded top restaurants such as Pizza Inn, Mezza, Shabz Bar-B-Que, ChopIt Express, Chowpaty, Artcaffe, Al-Yusra Restaurant, and Papparoti Kenya, offering traditional Iftar dishes like Biryani, Kebabs, Bhajia, Samosas, Grilled Meats, and Fresh Juices.
Additionally, the select restaurants will operate 24/7 to accommodate those who prefer to order after 10:00 pm.
To guarantee timely delivery, the company has committed to a 30- to 45-minute delivery window. Also, select restaurants will now operate 24/7 to accommodate customers ordering meals late into the night.
Bolt Food General Manager Edgar Kitur said the company had increased the number of partner restaurants to meet growing demand while ensuring affordability.

Neighborhoods with High Demand
Neighborhoods experiencing double-digit increases in deliveries include Eastleigh and Mathare which saw a 62 percent rise in orders, Parklands recorded a 59 percent increase and South B and Imara Daima had a 48 percent surge.
Moreover, data insights show that food delivery services are becoming increasingly popular in Nairobi.
In 2023, around 9.3 percent of Kenyans opted for online food and grocery shopping, a figure expected to rise to 16.7 percent by 2027.
Further, with the addition of Bolt Market to the platform, customers can now order groceries and essential items from morning until late at night, with the convenience of scheduling deliveries in advance.
“Affordability remains a key focus for Bolt Market, with the platform offering free delivery within a 3-kilometer radius and discounts of up to 80 per cent during select promotional periods. Our goal is to make this season more convenient while empowering small businesses to thrive,” added Kitur.
In Mombasa, Bamburi Nyali experienced a staggering 542 per cent increase in delivered orders, reinforcing Bolt Food’s growing presence along the coast during this significant period.
