Eveready East Africa PLC has announced leadership changes following a recent Board of Directors meeting held on March 4, 2025.
The company has appointed new directors and, at the same time, confirmed the resignation of several board members, marking a shift in its governance.

In the newly constituted board, Hanan Hassan El-Kathiri has been named the Chairperson, with Philip Muruki and Nage James Kimani joining as Non-Executive Directors.
Additionally, Njeri Bakari has been appointed as a Non-Executive Independent Director, while Elsie Thuo steps in as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The changes come following the resignation of Mustapha Nduri as Board Chairperson, along with Faith Mwauro, Joseph Sitati, Annette Were, and Wilfred Serah, who also vacated their positions.
“The Board of Directors takes this opportunity to thank the outgoing Directors for their invaluable service, which steadied the Company and wishes them the best in their future endeavors.

“The Board welcomes the new Directors and looks forward to drawing on their expertise to steer the Company forward,” the announcement from the board read in part.

Details of the Newly Appointed Eveready Leaders
The newly appointed board Chairperson, Hanan Hassan El-Kathiri, is a dual-qualified lawyer in Kenya and New York, with expertise in commercial dispute resolution, litigation, and financial regulatory matters.
She is the founder of HLK Law Advocates and has a strong reputation in high-stakes legal disputes.
“She has successfully represented financial institutions, multinational corporations, and businesses. Previously, she was a Partner at MMK Abdulahi Advocates LLP, where she built a strong reputation in high-stakes litigation and commercial disputes resolution,” stated the company in the announcement.
On the other hand, Philip N. Muruki, an experienced executive with over 25 years in banking, public service, and corporate strategy, has worked across Kenya, Zimbabwe, Ghana, and Saudi Arabia.
His leadership spans both the public and private sectors, including advisory roles in Kenya’s Ministry of Public Service, Performance Management, and Economic Affairs.
Moreover, Muruki holds a Higher Diploma in Computer Science from the Institute of Data Processing Management (UK) and a BSc in Mathematics and Geography from Egerton University.
“His career includes roles such as COO at Jamii Bora Bank and Senior Change Advisor in banking transformation projects,” added the announcement.
Further, Nage James Kimani brings a wealth of knowledge in business management, purchasing, and supply chain strategy.
As the NG-CDF chairman, he has overseen economic and community development projects through funding mechanisms.
“His ability to plan, organize, and execute projects while fostering strong communication and decision-making skills has been key in his success.
“He is committed to contributing to institutional success while driving meaningful community development initiatives.”

Similarly, Njeri Bakari is a policy expert with five years of public service experience, specialising in project management, verification, and delivery management. She is recognized for her leadership in fostering public-private partnerships.
Njeri has been recognized for her leadership and organizational abilities, she has a proven track record in managing public affairs, facilitating negotiations, and overseeing protocol operations.
With strong communication, relationship-building, and strategic coordination skills, she excels in fostering productive partnerships across sectors.
Lastly, Elsie Thuo, the new Acting CEO, is a seasoned professional in financial services, business development, and sustainability.
She has a strong background in strategic planning, market penetration, and execution, having worked with government officials, private companies, and diplomatic organizations to create innovative and sustainable financial strategies.
Further, she has a proven track record of leadership (C-suite and board level) and project execution. Thuo has worked with companies, government officials, and diplomatic partners
