The Mama Watoto Supermarket, one of the most popular retail hubs in Kakamega Town, has been advertised for auction.
According to a notice published in the dailies, the supermarket will be auctioned on Thursday, 26th June 2025, at 11:00 AM.
The public auction will take place outside the Kakamega General Post Office, located along the busy Kisumu-Kakamega-Mumias Road, in the heart of Kakamega Town.
“Prime commercial supermarket block within Kakamega Township, Kakamega County, to be auctioned on Thursday, 26th June 2025, at 11:00 AM outside the Kakamega General Post Office, located along Kisumu-Kakamega-Mumias Road, Kakamega Town Centre, Kakamega County,” part of the notice read.

Located approximately 90 metres east of Safari Valley Hotel in Kakamega, the supermarket sits on a 0.301-hectare (0.74-acre) parcel of land within the township.
The plot is rectangular in shape, with a relatively level gradient and mixed topsoils. Its boundaries are clearly marked with building lines, and access to the property remains open.
Developed on the site is a commercial supermarket block, a prominent structure built using high-wall reinforced concrete columns and beams, with concrete block walls.

The external walls are mostly plastered, though some sections at the rear are yet to be colour-washed.
Internally, the building is plastered and painted, and it is topped with a pitched metal truss roof fitted with box-profile roofing sheets.
All external doors are metallic, and the windows are glazed metal casements, fitted with burglar-proofing for added security.
The ground floor ceiling is fully plastered and painted, while other sections remain open.

The accommodation comprises an open supermarket floor, a restaurant section, supermarket stores, a generator room, and a retail section with four (4) shops on the ground floor.
A staircase leads to the first-floor landing, which features a metallic balustrade and an additional four (4) shops.
The total built-up area is approximately 15,090 square feet. The property is well-served with mains electricity, water, and sewer services. It is easily accessible via a tar-surfaced road and is held under a freehold title.
Plots, Warehouse and Apartments Put on Sale
The auctioneers are also selling the supermarket’s plot situated along Sudi Road within Kakamega Town Centre.
The plot lies directly opposite National Oil Kakamega, to the northeastern elevation, and about 65 metres northeast of Equity Bank Kakamega. It extends approximately 0.137 hectares (0.34 acres).
The plot is rectangular in shape and positioned on a corner, fronting three access roads. It features a relatively level gradient and mixed topsoils. Entry to the property remains open.
Developed on the site are several incomplete concrete stall structures, which are currently at the retail stage of construction. Mains electricity, water, and sewer services are connected to the property.
Meanwhile, a warehouse sitting on two adjacent plots located off Mumias Road is also up for sale. The plots lie directly opposite Serve Ministries International, at the upper elevation.
Each plot measures approximately 0.06 hectares (0.148 acres).
Jointly developed on these plots is an L-shaped warehouse, an ablution block, and a semi-permanent structure. The semi-permanent structure features GCI sheets on both the walls and the roof.
