Johnes Mwaruma Mwashushe is a Kenyan politician currently serving as the senator for Taita Taveta County.
He is a member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and is serving his second term as senator, having first been elected in 2017 and re-elected in August 2022.
Before entering politics, Mwaruma was a teacher and an active official in the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT).

Johnes Mwaruma completed his primary education at Werugha Primary School, earning his KCPE in 1987.
He went on to attend Kenyatta High School in Mwatate, where he sat for his KCSE in 1991. After high school, he obtained a Diploma in Education from Kenya Science Teachers College (KSTC) between 1993 and 1995.
Mwaruma then pursued a Bachelor of Education (Science) at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) from 2007 to 2010.
Continuing his academic journey, he earned a Master of Education from Aga Khan University in Dar es Salaam between 2011 and 2013.

Mwaruma began his career in education, serving as a teacher under the Teachers Service Commission from 1996 until 2017.
He also taught at several institutions, including St. Mary’s High School in Lushangonyi, Voi Girls Secondary School, and lectured part-time at Taita Taveta University.
