Nairobi’s City Mortuary will be rebranded and named Nairobi Funeral Home, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has said.
Sakaja made the revelations during an inspection tour of the renovation and modification works at the facility.
“Inspecting ongoing improvements at the City mortuary soon to be renamed the Nairobi Funeral Home today. We must give our people dignity and will,” said Sakaja.
“Restoring dignity to our dearly departed and their families by improving the City Mortuary as well as our cemeteries. The contractor is on-site,” he added.
The Nairobi City County is installing new cooling units, cold room doors at the facility with drainage works also undergoing renovation.

Nairobi Public Health Chief Officer Tom Nyakaba said the renovations seeks at giving proper and dignified services to Nairobians who have lost their loved ones.
“Under Governor Sakaja’s leadership, we will ensure those who have lost their loved ones are treated with respect as a mark of last respect,” he said.
The City mortuary has 142 cooling units but only 33 are effective.
Sakaja noted that in order to keep work at the morgue flowing, 63 new cooling units will be installed to bridge the gap.
