Motorists using the Nairobi Expressway Westlands Entrance from the James Gichuru Junction direction have been warned of traffic disruption, with CBD-bound traffic set to be diverted to Waiyaki Way during scheduled works on the elevated overpass deck.
In a traffic advisory dated September 18, the company stated that the maintenance will begin on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. and run until Monday, September 21, 2026, at noon.
“Motorists traveling from the James Gichuru Junction direction toward the CBD are informed that maintenance and construction works will take place along the elevated overpass deck from Saturday, 19th September 2026 at 8:00 PM to Monday, 21st September 2026 at 12:00 PM,” read part of the statement.
Nairobi Expressway Sets 40-Hour Maintenance Window
During the works, CBD-bound motorists approaching the Westlands Entrance from James Gichuru Junction will not be allowed to use the elevated overpass deck.
Instead, they will be required to use the lower A8 road, Waiyaki Way, to access the Nairobi Expressway.
Moja Expressway said outbound traffic exiting the Expressway towards the overpass will resume normal operations from 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 19.
However, the company stated that the Nairobi Expressway Westlands Entrance will remain operational during the maintenance period.

Motorists have been advised to exercise caution and follow directions from traffic marshals stationed along the affected route.
Moja Expressway apologized to motorists for the inconvenience caused by the works.
“Drivers are urged to exercise caution and follow the instructions of traffic marshals stationed along the route. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and thank you for choosing the Nairobi Expressway,” part of the statement read.

Alternative Routes to CBD
Motorists from James Gichuru Junction and Westlands can use the lower A8, Waiyaki Way, and proceed towards the CBD through the Uhuru Highway corridor.
Motorists have been directed to use this route as the main alternative during the disruption.
Drivers coming from areas such as Sarit, ABC Place and General Mathenge can use Lower Kabete Road, connect to Chiromo Road or Riverside Drive, and then join Uhuru Highway towards the CBD.
Motorists travelling from James Gichuru can also remain on the ground-level Waiyaki Way, pass through the Westlands area and continue towards Uhuru Highway before branching onto State House Road or Kenyatta Avenue, depending on their destination within the CBD.
For motorists travelling from farther west, including Kangemi, Mountain View, Uthiru and Kikuyu, the Waiyaki Way–Uhuru Highway corridor remains an alternative route into the CBD.
Commuters using matatu routes along the 23 and 105 corridors can similarly use the regular Waiyaki Way connection rather than accessing the Expressway through the Westlands overpass.
