The family of a man accused of killing his elder brother in Kagochi, Nyeri County has revealed that the two were sworn enemies who always fought and quarrelled.
Confirming the sad incident, Mathrira East Sub-county Police Commander Benjamin Rotich said the two were drinking together when the accused stabbed his 50-year-old brother Geoffrey Maina.
Eyewitnesses told security agents that the accused stabbed Maina with a knife as their mother plead with them to stop fighting.
Speaking to the media, the brother’s younger sister Rachael Gathoni revealed that the two were sworn, enemies.
“My brothers quarrelled frequently, especially when they were both drunk,” she said.
“I recall an incident last year when one attacked the other, hitting him with a wood plunk, and later bragged to other members of the family that he had finished him, but thank God he survived.”
The younger sister further revealed that their family had long lost in reuniting the two after attempts by their matriarch to bring them closer failed.
“When I received a call about the incident, I knew the worst had happened. As a family, we knew it was just a matter of time before either of them killed the other. It was a matter of when not if. They seemed to hold a grudge against each other but nobody knew why because no one had ever explained the conflict to us,” she said.
The body of the deceased is lying at Karatina Level Four Hospital mortuary while the accused is in police custody awaiting arraignment in a court of law.
