A major anti-narcotics operation in Kisii Town on August 15 left a fugitive man and a drug kingpin on the run, while his wife and four others are in custody of the police.
This is after the recovery of cannabis worth Ksh2 million and incriminating sales records.
The operation, conducted by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) with support from a specialised police unit, targeted multiple hideouts linked to a well-established narcotics syndicate.
“Early this morning we conducted a high-stakes operation in Kisii Town, arresting five suspects, including the wife of a fugitive drug kingpin, and seizing cannabis worth Ksh2 million,” read part of the NACADA statement.
Fugitive man evades Arrest after NACADA raid
NACADA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Anthony Omerikwa identified the suspect as Geoffrey Nyabira, a repeat offender with an ongoing drug trafficking case in the Kisii Law Courts.
Despite the well-coordinated raid, Nyabira managed to evade arrest.
“This individual is a notorious trafficker who has defiantly returned to his illicit trade even after our previous raid and court case,” Dr. Omerikwa stated.
“Let this be a warning to all drug dealers: NACADA will not relent. We are pursuing Nyabira and his entire network with every resource at our disposal,” he added.
Records Reveal Lucrative Bhang Trade
During the raid, officers recovered detailed sales records from Nyabira’s residence.
The documents confirmed that just hours before the operation, the suspect had supplied peddlers with bhang worth over Ksh1 million, highlighting the scale of the business.
Nyabira’s wife was arrested and is currently being held at Nyanchwa Police Station. Three other suspects were also detained as part of the crackdown.

“Our intelligence and enforcement teams are closing in. He will be apprehended, and his entire network will face the full wrath of the law,” Dr. Omerikwa vowed.
Counterfeit Alcohol Seized
In addition to the cannabis haul, officers confiscated counterfeit alcoholic beverages from Nyabira’s wines and spirits outlet.
Authorities say this points to a diversified illegal operation spanning multiple revenue streams.
The seized evidence is expected to form part of the prosecution’s case against the suspects.
All five detainees will be charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act.
Public Urged to Report Drug Activity
NACADA emphasized that the operation is part of a broader effort to dismantle drug networks across the country.

The agency has called on members of the public to report suspicious activity to help disrupt the narcotics trade.
“Together, we will reclaim our streets from these merchants of destruction,” Dr. Omerikwa concluded. Investigations are ongoing, with more arrests expected.
