Renowned food content creator, Boina, has broken her silence to address the accusations brought against her by makeup artist popularly known as Viggy following a highly publicized dispute that unfolded on April 10.

In her official statement, Boina reiterated her strong commitment to aligning her brand with values, products, and businesses that resonate with her core principles.

“As a brand, I am very keen on the message, products, brands, and businesses that I would want myself and my brand to be associated with,” she stated.

The sequence of events began on March 11th when makeup artist Viggy approached Boina proposing a collaboration on a makeup project at her studio, Veejees creative canvas based in Westlands.

Boina initially responded positively, expressing her excitement about the collaboration, stating, “We can definitely collaborate.”

Both parties agreed to share the makeup video on their respective platforms as part of the promotion deal.

“I had an oral agreement with the makeup artist to promote her studio and work.”

“As per our agreement, I was to approve the videos and photos that were to be posted and when they were to be released,” read Boina’s statement in part.

Details of the feud

However, tensions arose when Boina allegedly, had a change of heart and decided to pay Viggy for her makeup services instead of posting the videos as initially planned.

This decision came after Viggy posted a meme video on her Instagram featuring Boina’s photo as the cover, which evidently upset Boina.

“Unfortunately, she posted my images and videos without prior approval on a date on which we did not agree. Further, the message advanced in the video and images did not sit well with me.”

“I opted to terminate the agreement and pay her dues and damages which she stated was Kshs 3,500/- however, I paid her 4,000/-,” said Boina.

Viggy’s side of the story

Viggy, recounting the situation on her Instagram stories on April 10, mentioned that she removed the video promptly upon Boina’s reaction to avoid any further conflict.

Despite this, a few days later, Boina contacted Viggy and expressed her reluctance to be featured in the video.

Boina explained that she felt the content of the video did not align with her usual style and proceeded to inquire about the makeup costs, offering to pay for the services.

“She called me and told me she doesn’t want us to post. I asked her the reason, and she said that it does not align with her content,” said Viggy.

The situation escalated when Viggy, feeling that she had invested a significant amount of time and effort into the project, believed that the payment offered by Boina was insufficient to compensate for the hours spent, even leading to a loss of clients.

“She asked how much the makeup is I told her, and she said that she would pay. I told her that even if she paid, I would still post it because it was not enough for the hours used,” said Viggy.

Viggy posts the video upsetting Boina

Subsequently, Viggy decided to post the video, much to Boina’s dismay, who commented, “I told you not to post my videos.”

Boina, feeling her image was being used for advertising without a formal contract, went on to threaten legal action against Viggy.

In response, Viggy suggested that for the video to be taken down, Boina would need to make an additional payment to adequately compensate for the time and effort invested.

The situation took another turn when Boina reposted the video on her personal Instagram but credited another makeup artist, causing further tension with Viggy, who felt her hard work was being undermined.

Boina in her statement said that this incident served as a valuable lesson for her, underscoring the importance of formal, written agreements.

“The lesson has been learnt. Written agreements are very important. Moving forward, having written agreements is key to avoiding any miscommunications and misunderstandings.” said the food content creator.

Boina’s Rise to Fame

Boina, rose to fame late last year when videos of her chowing down on delicacies from different restaurants went viral, with netizens in disbelief at how a girl like her was able to stomach such large amounts of food.
