The Chief Officer for Environment in Nairobi County, Geoffrey Mosiria, has revealed why the famous Sabina Joy’s Signage in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) was torn down.
Mosiria stated that this signage and others block pathways and prevent people from walking freely on the streets. He termed them illegal and obstructive.
“These are illegal billboards erected on the walkways which are blocking people from walking freely in the streets,” said Mosiria.
Mosiria raided the club that had hidden its signage upon learning that the officer was taking down signage along the streets of Nairobi. He posted a video showing how he and his men raided the club and recovered the signage.

He then posted the photo of the signage stating that dads would go home early that day.
Taking to his X account, Mosiria defended the decision stating that such actions are unpopular but necessary if the City’s order is to be restored.

“To achieve the dream that His Excellency the Governor has for Nairobi, we must make some tough and unpopular decisions that will help restore order,” stated Mosiria.
He added that the actions being taken by the County Government are not about to stop even though most people are not comfortable with them.
“Some individuals may oppose these actions, but there’s no turning back. This is the only way to reclaim Nairobi and ensure a safe, clean environment for everyone,” added Geoffrey.
Nairobi County Government criticised after clean up
Mosiria further stated that some of the signage have not been paid for, and the County Government is out to do away with all of them.
The exercise was carried out on the night of Monday, January 13, 2025. Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja took part in the clean-up that mainly targeted Tom Mboya and Moi Avenue streets in the CBD.

The exercise entailed sweeping the streets and removing of signage of shops, eateries, and clubs.
The Nairobi County Government has, however, come under sharp criticism for the exercise with most people terming the move as unfair and unnecessary.
Sabina Joy is located along Moi Avenue and is often associated with ladies of the night and adult entertainment.
