A Nairobi County government official had a difficult time on the night of Saturday, October 19, pleading with the management of a Somali nightclub in the Kilimani area to reduce the noise coming from their club.
Nairobi County Environmental Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria was prompted to approach the club’s management after residents living near the club complained of noise pollution.
“The neighbours have been complaining, so let me go and see for myself if what they’ve been saying is true,” Mosiria said while recording himself as he approached the nightclub.
In a video circulating on social media, Mosiria was met with resistance when he approached the club’s management shortly after midnight to urge them to reduce the volume coming from their speakers.
In the video, the Nairobi County government official was addressing two members of the club’s management about the residents’ complaints, but neither of them wanted to hear any of it.

Instead, the county government official’s plea fell on deaf ears.
After realizing that the club owners failed to comply with his order, he called the owner of the club to inform him about the situation and told him that he would seek legal redress and that his staff management would be arraigned in court on Tuesday, October 20.

Following the incident, Kenyans have condemned the actions of the Club management on different social media platforms.
Former Mandera Senator, Billow Kerrow described the owner’s actions as impunity and urged the Environment Cabinet Secretary, Adan Duale, Nairobi Governor, Johnson Sakaja and National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) to intervene since it is within their docket.

Kenyans condemn the actions of the club owners
“Impunity: A rowdy Somali nightclub in Kilimani! The arrogance of the management of the club, telling off the City Council official. Are these guys above the law? Unacceptable. Shameful. NEMA and City Council sleeping on the job,” Kerrow said.
Another social media user, Mohammed Hersi, urged Kenyans not to be silent while such things are happening and to support county government officials during raids at noisy nightclubs.
“I think it’s about time Kenyans stopped being docile.

All those neighbours should have come together and confronted the situation instead of just observing from a distance. Join him to express your anger and concerns about this issue,” Hersi urged.
Muasilia’s confrontation with the club owners comes a month after Quiver Steak House Club along Kilimani in Nairobi was recently shut down by the Nairobi County government due to ongoing noise pollution issues.
The club was shut down on September 17 after an uproar was raised by residents residing near the club.
