First-year students who applied for government funding through the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) can now check their university portals for updated fee statements after the completion of financial aid allocations.
In a notice dated September 9, the Technical University of Kenya (TUK) said HELB had completed financial aid allocations for students who submitted their applications by September 3.
The university said updated fee statements would be available on the student portal by the close of business on September 10.
“Following the completion of the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) financial aid allocations for students who submitted their applications by 3rd September 2026, students are hereby informed that their updated fees statements will be available on the Student Portal by close of business today, 10th September, 2026,” stated TUK.
According to TUK, the statements will show the household contribution each student will pay after government funding is applied.
The completion of the process is a welcome development, as it is expected to help students know how much they must pay as they prepare for registration and other academic activities.

How to Check Your Updated Fee Statement
According to HELB, students can check their funding allocation and remaining fees through their university student portals.
To check:
- Visit your university student portal.
- Log in using your student credentials.
- Open the fees or finance section.
- View or download the updated fee statement.
- Check the household contribution amount and any remaining balance.
Universities are expected to update the statements as allocation information is processed.
New Deadline for Students Yet to Apply
TUK also reminded students who have not submitted HELB loan and scholarship applications to do so by September 21.
“Students who have not yet submitted their HELB loan and/or scholarship applications are strongly advised to complete their applications on or before the new deadline of 21st September, 2026,” said the university.
The university advised students to complete their applications through the Higher Education Funding (HEF) Portal before the deadline and warned that delays in applying could affect access to government funding.

The university also announced that HELB officers would be available on campus to help students with applications, funding queries and allocation-related concerns.
Students seeking clarification on government funding, loan applications and financial aid allocations were encouraged to visit the help desk.
HELB Extends Application Deadline
HELB extended the deadline for subsequent loan applications for the 2026/2027 academic year to September 21.
The extension followed a directive by the Ministry of Education to give eligible university students and TVET trainees who missed the initial application period additional time to apply.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced that HELB and the Universities Fund would extend the application window for students who had not submitted their applications.
The funding application period opened on June 1 and initially closed on August 31.
By the close of the application window, the government had received 789,422 funding applications from university students and TVET trainees.
The Ministry of Education said the extension would allow students and trainees who could not apply during the initial period to submit their applications before the September 21 deadline.
In a statement dated September 7, HELB reminded continuing students that the deadline for subsequent loan applications had been extended to September 21.
