Several individuals, including teachers, university students, and even school support staff such as cooks, have been arrested across different counties for exam malpractice in the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
This comes as the country enters day three of the nationwide KCSE examinations, with heightened vigilance in all examination centres following the rising cases of malpractice.
Counties Lead in KCSE Exam Fraud Arrests
Siaya, Samburu, Kericho, and Kitui counties recorded the highest number of incidents linked to cheating.
In Siaya, Rachar Secondary School topped the list with five suspects arrested. The five include the school principal, an invigilator, the centre’s supervisor, the school secretary, and the school cook.
Further, in Samburu County, three officials from Moi Girls High School, Maralal, including the centre manager, the exam supervisor, and a teacher, were arrested.
Reports indicate they were allegedly involved in facilitating access to unauthorised examination materials.
University Students Impersonating Candidates
Several university students were also found impersonating KCSE candidates.
In Kericho County, a Kenyatta University student was caught writing a paper on behalf of a registered candidate.

Police confirmed that both incidents were under investigation to determine whether larger syndicates were involved.
Mobile Phones Confiscated in Exam Halls
According to a police report, KNEC officials on duty noticed that some candidates had mobile phones and ordered them to surrender the devices.

In Marsabit County, Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) officials confiscated mobile phones from candidates in Moyale and Saku constituencies.
Some of the devices were allegedly being used to access answers and circulate exam content.
