The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has announced the registration of repeaters and private candidates who wish to sit for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination (KCSE).
In a notice dated February 18, 2025, KNEC announced that registration will take place at the Sub-County Director of Education offices.

“The candidates may register as full repeaters (registering for seven or more subjects) or partial repeaters (registering for less than seven subjects),” the statement read.
The registration window is open for candidates who sat for the KCSE examination in previous years and wish to improve their grades.

KNEC Registration Deadline
The registration of candidates wishing to sit the 2025 KCSE was scheduled to commence on February 17, 2025, and it will end on March 28, 2025.
According to the statement, the registration of candidates will be strictly online through the KNEC portal.

Institutions shall therefore log into the portal to capture the registration details of their candidates using their examination login credentials.
Registration Process
Further, heads of institutions will be responsible for the registration of their candidates.
KNEC issued a warning to the institution that any registration of ghost candidates shall constitute examination malpractice.
The offence shall attract sanctions including deregistration of the school as KNEC examination centre.
All candidates presented for the examination should be eligible.
At the same time, all candidates must adhere to the laid down regulations on subject entry requirements for grading subject clusters and rules.
In addition, all eligible candidates shall upload their correct passport-size photographs.
Candidates are further cautioned that there will be no replacing or changing of passport photographs once the period of registration is over.
While registering, candidates are advised to present correct data when registering.

How to Register Accurately
Candidates should ensure that their names are accurately spelled, as documented in their KCPE examination certificates.
To complete the process, candidates should fill in their gender, year of birth, citizenship, and birth certificate number.

Special Needs Category
Candidates with special needs which includes the visually impaired, shall indicate whether they are blind or partially blind.
For the blind, they shall include requirements including braille or large print papers for the low vision.
