The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has made it easier for Kenyans with foreign qualifications to have their certificates recognized.
The process is now fully online through the Query Management Information System (QMIS), which can be accessed at http://qmis.knec.ac.ke.
KNEC evaluates both school and post-school certificates, but only if they meet these conditions:
- Certificates must be issued by accredited institutions or examining boards recognized by law.
- Certificates that are similar to those offered by KNEC (local or international) cannot be evaluated.
- Applicants must meet the entry requirements of the equivalent KNEC course.
- Advanced-level applicants must provide verified copies of all previous certificates.
- Certificates must be confirmed directly by the awarding institution to KNEC.
Important KNEC Rules:
- Applicants must have studied the required subjects and completed the proper number of study hours.
- Certificates earned through distance learning outside the country where the program is offered are not eligible.
- If your certificate is not in English or Kiswahili, it must be translated and authenticated by your country’s embassy or a recognized translation authority.
- Anyone wanting to join a KNEC-offering institution must first get their foreign certificate recognized.

-
- Reason for the evaluation
