UoN joins other public universities that have since informed students to return to class following the end of the seven-week nationwide lecturers’ strike.
At the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Prof. Robert Kinyua, directed students to report back on Friday, November 7, 2025, with classes resuming on Monday, November 10, 2025.
Similarly, Kenyatta University (KU) Academic Registrar Bernard Kivunge announced that all activities for the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic year will resume on Monday, November 10, 2025.
The resumption of learning across public universities follows the decision by university staff unions to call off their 49-day strike, reached after an agreement with the government on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.
End of strike
UASU Secretary General Constantine Wesonga said the unions had secured a government commitment to settle the outstanding Ksh7.9 billion owed under the 2017–2021 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) in two installments.
“The government will disburse the first tranche of Ksh3.8 billion between November and December 2025, with the remaining balance to be paid by July 2026,” Wesonga explained.

The industrial action, which began in September, had paralyzed operations at public universities nationwide, leaving thousands of students unable to attend classes or complete their programs. Wesonga assured students that lecturers are committed to recovering the lost time and completing the syllabus.
“I want to apologise to the comrades for the 42 plus days they have lost. However, our members have committed that they are going to recover the lost time fully,” he stated during the announcement.
The agreement also included a framework for negotiating the 2025–2029 CBA, which is expected to be concluded within the next 30 days.
