The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) and the Morendat Institute of Oil and Gas (MIOG) National Polytechnic have partnered to enhance access to the institution’s oil and gas industry-oriented courses.
This follows the elevation of the institution to a national polytechnic in September 2024.

MIOG now joins over 200 public TVET institutions, 70 universities, and 90 Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) campuses that are part of the central student placement system.
To qualify for the three-year diploma programs, applicants must have a minimum mean grade of C- (minus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.

For the two-year certificate programmes, candidates need a minimum mean grade of D (plain).
These programmes are designed to address various facets of the oil and gas industry, ensuring students are well-prepared to tackle industry challenges and contribute to the sustainable development of the sector.

Additionally, the courses are examined and certified by the TVET Curriculum Development, Assessment, and Certification Council (TVET CDACC), which ensures that the training meets national education standards.

KUCCPS Announces Oil & Gas Courses for C- and D Students at Morendat Institute
The courses include:
- Diploma in Petroleum Management
This programme focuses on the management aspects of the petroleum industry, including exploration, production, and distribution. - Diploma in Welding and Fabrication
Welding and fabrication are essential skills in the oil and gas sector, particularly for pipeline construction and maintenance. - Certificate in Welding and Fabrication
This certificate provides foundational skills in welding, which are applicable in various industries, including oil and gas. - Diploma in Analytical Chemistry
Analytical chemistry is crucial for quality control and testing in the petroleum industry. - Diploma in Environmental Science
Environmental science plays a role in assessing and mitigating the environmental impacts of oil and gas operations. - Automotive Engineering Level 6
This programme focuses on vehicle engineering, which is relevant to the maintenance of transportation equipment used in various industries. - Telecommunication Engineering Level 6
Telecommunication systems are vital for operations in many sectors, including oil and gas, for communication and data transmission. - Applied Biology Level 6
Applied biology can contribute to environmental monitoring and biotechnological applications in various industries. - Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Level 6
This programme is relevant to climate control systems used in multiple sectors, including the storage and processing facilities in the oil and gas industry.

About Morendat Institute of Oil & Gas and Its Campuses
The Morendat Institute of Oil & Gas (MIOG) was established following a summit of the Heads of State from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and South Sudan during the 3rd Heads of State Summit held in Kigali, Rwanda, on October 28, 2013.
During this meeting, the member states resolved to establish Centres of Excellence in the region to offer capacity building for the Northern Corridor Integration Projects (NCIP).
MIOG operates through its three key campuses:
Nairobi Campus – The head office is located here, and it offers technical courses such as Welding, Mechanical Engineering, Oil and Gas Operations, Instrumentation and Control, and Analytical Chemistry.
The campus has a laboratory equipped with cutting-edge technology equipment for analytical chemistry training and testing of petroleum products.
Naivasha Campus (Morendat Training and Conference Centre – MTCC) – This campus hosts corporate courses aimed at industry professionals.
Eldoret Fire and Safety Training Centre – This campus offers specialized training in firefighting and a Diploma in Oil and Gas Economics.
To ease the pressure on parents, the institution allows flexibility in the payment of annual tuition fee of Ksh 71,700.
