Even as the Kenyan government continues to ensure quality education is accessible and affordable for all, there are some who believe that quality education is found in expensive schools.
Rich parents will do whatever it takes to give their kids every advantage possible from an early age, including getting them into the most prestigious schools.
Some of these schools located in Nairobi, according to the International Schools Database (2022), are the most expensive international schools in Africa.
The survey, which was released on January 17, 2023, also found that Nairobi had the greatest concentration of international schools on the continent.
In this article, we have compiled a list of these prestigious institutions, detailing the amount of school fees paid and the resources provided to the students.
International School of Kenya (ISK)
Located in the Kitisuru suburbs of Nairobi, on 40 acres of a former coffee plantation, the school serves approximately 900 students from over 60 different nationalities.
At first, the non-profit institution was established by cooperation between the governments of the United States and Canada.
Likewise, the diploma curriculum authorized for usage in North America is offered by this prestigious school.
Parents and guardians are required to pay an annual fee ranging from Ksh1.6 million to Ksh3.1 million for students in prekindergarten through grade 12.
The amount includes the luxury of world cuisines enjoyed by the students including paneer jalfrezi, roast chicken drumsticks curries, sautéed veggies, and beef stroganoff.

Brookhouse Schools
Established in 1981, this prestigious institution is an educational day and boarding school with an independent British curriculum that offers primary, intermediate, and secondary education.
Brookhouse schools sits on 14 acres piece of land right adjacent to the Nairobi National Park.
It is also renowned for producing some of the most talented musicians including the late E-sir. It has world class theatres which are a premier performing arts venue for play productions, music concerts, and other events.
In 2013, Brookhouse school was the venue for the historic inaugural presidential debates in the run-up to the Kenyan presidential election in March.
Parents part ways with an average of Ksh2,030,000 for annual fees for children between the age of 2-18 years.
Peponi School
Peponi School was established in 1989, founded on Christian principles.
It was among the first co-educational boarding school based on the British Independent School system.
Notably, the school employs a few external teachers to promote Karate, Tae-Kwondo, Trampolining, Chess and even Pottery.

Furthermore, the main school facilities are utilized for activities such as swimming and tennis with the music department boasting of a world-class orchestra.
For admission at Peponi, full boarders pay Ksh1,115,180 while weekly borders pay Ksh1,053,175.
On the other hand, day students pay Ksh731,510. This excludes extra charges for activities like music and any exams related to the same.
Parents also pay a refundable caution deposit upon admission.
Kenton College Preparatory School
Nested in the leafy suburb of Kileleshwa, this institution offers unique learning experiences for its learners.
According to the school website, the institution aims at providing a purposeful and happy environment with opportunities for children of all races between six and 13 years.
Some of the facilities enjoyed by the students include an 8 lane 25m Swimming Pool and a full-size synthetic grass pitch.
Nevertheless, learners at this institution pay fees averaging at Ksh1,921,500 every year.
