Ikuu Boys High School is a boys’ national secondary school located in Tharaka Nithi County. The learning institution was founded in 1964 as a provincial day secondary school under the sponsorship of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA). It was initially located on the grounds now occupied by Ikuu Girls’ High School.
In 1965, the school relocated to its current site after the local community generously donated land and resources to support its development. This strong community involvement laid the foundation for the school’s steady growth.
Ikuu Boys remained single stream up to 1978, when the second stream was introduced. In 1981, the school opened its doors to ‘A’ Level classes, and in 1996, it expanded to three streams, continuing to expand its facilities.
The quality assurance and standard officers, in their assessment, recommended upgrading Ikuu Boys to provincial boarding status in 2006 and decided to register it as a four-stream school.
However, the school lacked facilities to fully accommodate the fourth stream and was given time to develop.
Over the decades, Ikuu Boys High School expanded its academic and infrastructural capacity, culminating in its elevation to national school status in 2012, following its transformation into a fully four-stream school. The first national class was admitted in 2013.
