Internationally renowned singer Aliaune Thiam, popularly known as Akon, was arrested in Chamblee, just northeast of Atlanta, Georgia.
The arrest occurred after an outstanding warrant was issued for driving with a suspended license and failing to appear in court.
Authorities were alerted when Akon’s vehicle, a disabled white Tesla Cybertruck, was spotted at a local tint shop.
R&B Star Akon Arrested in Atlanta Area Over Suspended License Warrant
The Grammy-nominated hip-hop star was approached by authorities on Friday, November 7, after officers from the Chamblee Police Department received a wanted-person alert for a Tesla Cybertruck from the Roswell Police Department.
The Roswell Police Department noted that the vehicle’s owner had been flagged due to a suspended license.
Officers found the vehicle parked at Tint World, an automotive styling business, according to the Chamblee report. Upon arrival, police saw a man who matched the registered owner’s description.
They ran the man’s license information, revealing him to be Akon, and confirmed that he matched the individual named in the warrant, according to a police report.
Officers then informed Akon of his arrest, noting that he remained calm and told them he was aware of the warrant.
During the arrest, the 52-year-old was searched by police, and no weapons or contraband were found on his person, according to the Chamblee arrest report.
The “Smack That” singer was later taken to the DeKalb County Jail, where he was released to on-duty detention officers.
He was released within six hours, according to jail records.

Akon’s Arrest Draws Attention After Tesla Cybertruck Incident in Georgia
According to a report from the Roswell Police Department, Akon’s warrant stems from a September 10 incident, during which the singer’s Cybertruck was found stranded after its battery had died.
While waiting for the tow, police ran Akon’s information and discovered that his driver’s license had been suspended since January 2023 due to a failure to appear in an earlier case.

The report also noted that an “illegal vape” was found in the center console of Akon’s vehicle. Officers said it was seized and submitted for destruction.
Akon was issued a citation for driving with a suspended license and was later released from the scene due to “manpower issues in the city.”
The bench warrant was later issued after Akon failed to appear in court related to the suspended license charge, leading to his arrest in November.
Akon’s arrest has drawn significant attention due to his high-profile music career and philanthropic work in Africa.
