Mulango Girls High School is a well-established public girls’ secondary school in Wikililye Sub-location, Katulani Sub-county, Kitui County.
Under the new Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum, Mulango girls are categorized as C2.

Mulango operates as a boarding secondary institution and falls under the regular SNE category, with no special needs designation.
From January 2026, the institution began admitting Grade 10 learners, offering specialised pathways in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Social Sciences, and Arts and Sports, in line with the CBE structure.
History of Mulango Girls Secondary School
Mulango Girls’ High School was founded in 1955 as a primary school by the Africa Inland Mission (AIM).
In 1961, it was converted to a girls’ secondary school and placed under the leadership of Miss Taylor, a Canadian missionary who served as its first principal for 20 years.
After a series of changes, the first Form 1 was admitted in 1963. In 1965, it became a double stream, and in 1966, a triple.
Between 1978 and 1989, The school had A-level arts classes when it was phased out. In 2017, the school admitted a fourth stream.

In 2010, the school was selected as a center of academic excellence, and the government of Kenya donated KSh 15M to upgrade the infrastructure under the economic stimulus programme.
Meanwhile, this grant helped them build 6 classrooms and an administration block. Since then, they have embarked on upgrading the school facilities to improve their appearance and accommodate the current population.
Inaddition, Mulango girls have built another 12 classrooms, toilets for the students, and a principal’s house.
The school is an SMASE centre and was recently selected to be a STEM model school. (STEM- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)
Therefore, it is supposed to nurture students to be innovative and able to link education to real life. The learners should be encouraged to embrace science and use it to solve societal problems. Graduates from this school must have values.
Performance and Enrolment
The school has maintained a good run in performance at the Kenya National Examinations Council, KNEC, exams.
In the 2019 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE, exams, the school featured in the list of top 200 schools nationally after recording a mean score of 6.836 (C+ plus).
Elsewhere, in the 2023 KCSE examinations, Mulango Girls’ High School recorded an impressive performance, posting a mean score of 7.294 points (C+), with 164 out of 228 candidates attaining the direct university entry grade, representing 71.93 per cent of the candidature.
The school has an enrollment of over 982 students.

Under Ministry of Education guidelines effective January 2026, fees for public senior secondary schools were standardised based on institutional classification.
