Ngere High School is a public boys’ school located along the Kisumu–Bondo Road in Kisumu County, Kenya.
It was founded in 1965 by the late President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.
After its establishment, Ngere High School was eventually upgraded to include Forms 5 and 6 before the education system changed to 8-4-4.
The school is well equipped with six dormitories, each named after its founders and prominent community leaders.
Ngere High School is categorized as C2 under the new Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum.
Since January 2026, the school has been admitting Grade 10 learners, offering specialised pathways in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Social Sciences, and Arts and Sports, in line with the CBE structure.
Admissions to the senior school from January 2026 are now determined by learners’ performance in the Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA).
Ngere High School KCSE Performance and Student Enrollment
Academically, Ngere High School is ranked among the top-performing schools in Kisumu County.
In the KCSE 2023 exams, the school was ranked among the top 400 nationally, achieving a Mean Score of 7.659 points, equivalent to a mean grade of B-.

The school had an 84.5% direct university entry rate, with 146 of 176 students achieving a C+ or higher and qualifying for direct university admission.
Additionally, in KCSE 2025, Ngere High School recorded an improved mean grade of 8.5, with 93% of students gaining direct university entry, reflecting a positive deviation of +0.68.
The school has an enrollment of about 700 students each year and a teaching staff of 21.

Under Ministry of Education guidelines effective January 2026, fees for public senior secondary schools were standardised based on institutional classification.
As a C2 category public senior school, Ngere has an official annual tuition fee of Ksh45,054.
However, the total cost for boarding students may be higher once additional approved charges are included.
