Nyambaria High School is a top-performing boys’ secondary school located in Nyamira County, renowned for its outstanding academic excellence.
It is a Seventh-day Adventist institution that was established in 1966 as a small school with a few dormitories but has since grown considerably, now boasting a student population of over 2,000 boys.
Each year, more than 400 students are admitted to Nyambaria High School based on academic merit and individual choice, in line with Kenya’s education policy. Until 2023, admissions were determined by performance in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination.
However, this system was replaced by the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), introduced under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) framework.
Nyambaria has consistently maintained a strong academic record in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations over the years, culminating in its elevation to national school status following a sustained upward trend in performance.
In January 2023, the school was ranked among the top ten best-performing schools nationally in the 2022 KCSE after its candidates achieved a mean score of 10.8975, an improvement from 9.3 the previous year. In the 2022 KCSE, the school recorded a 100% transition to university among the 484 candidates who sat the examination, while in 2023, 543 students successfully qualified for university admission.

In the 2024 Manga Sub-County KCSE performance results, Nyambaria High School took first position out of 30 ranked schools. The institution presented a total of 709 candidates for the national examinations, with over 90% qualifying for direct university admission.

Two students scored a straight A, while 40 attained an A-. Additionally, 79 candidates earned a B+, 119 scored a B, and another 119 obtained a B-.
Meanwhile, 97 students achieved a grade of C+, which is the minimum requirement for university entry. The lowest grade recorded was a D+, obtained by only one student.
The school’s remarkable performance continued in 2024, with candidates achieving a mean score of 8.575, reflecting a positive deviation of 0.310 from the 8.265 mean score recorded in the 2023 KCSE results.
Beyond academics, Nyambaria High School also excels in co-curricular activities. In 2022, the school advanced to the national music competitions. In 2023 and 2024, its students showcased exceptional talent in athletics, representing the school at the national level.
One student even represented Kenya at the East African Competition and later in the United States of America (USA).
School fees
The Government of Kenya previously issued a directive outlining the maximum annual school fees payable by parents.
Under the 2020 guidelines introduced by the Ministry of Education, Kenya’s 103 national schools were grouped into four clusters, with the official annual fee cap set at approximately Ksh75,798 per student.

However, actual fees may vary slightly from school to school due to additional charges levied by individual institutions, such as for uniforms, motivational programs, and co-curricular activities.
