St. Josephine Bakhita Siakago Girls High School is a national girls’ secondary school located in Embu County. The school began in 1970 as a Harambee mixed secondary school before transitioning into a single-streamed girls’ boarding school within the same year.
Between 1970 and 1972, it offered the Kenya Junior Secondary Examination (KJSE), with the pioneer class sitting for the Kenya Certificate of Education (K.C.E) in 1974.
In 1976, a second stream was introduced, and by 1978, the school was fully taken over by the national government and elevated to a provincial girls’ school with two streams.
The school continued its expansion, and in 2011, a third stream was added. It was also around this time that the school adopted its current name, St. Josephine Bakhita Siakago Girls High School.
A year later, in 2012, the school was officially elevated to national school status, and in 2013, it admitted its first class as a national school.
The school has, over the years, upheld a good academic record in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
Each year, over 200 students are admitted to the institution based on academic merit and individual choice, in line with Kenya’s education policy.
Performance
Until 2023, admissions were based on performance in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination.

This was, however, replaced by the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), introduced under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) framework.
School Fees
The government previously issued a directive outlining the maximum annual school fees that parents should pay.
Under new guidelines introduced in 2020 by the Ministry of Education, Kenya’s 103 national schools were grouped into four clusters.
Chogoria Girls High School was placed in Cluster Four (IV), meaning the official annual fee cap for students is approximately Ksh75,798.
However, actual fees may vary slightly from school to school due to additional charges levied by individual institutions, such as for uniforms, motivation programs, or co-curricular activities.
