The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has taken action against Peter Albert Ayiro, a teacher at Alliance Girls High School (AGHS), following explosive allegations of sexual grooming, abuse, and misconduct spanning over two decades.
For years, Ayiro held trusted positions at AGHS, including Christian Union patron, drama club mentor, and spiritual advisor.
However, he was implicated in a series of allegations by former students and staff, who accused him of a calculated pattern of sexual grooming and abuse in a damning investigative report by Africa Uncensored released last week.
Following the report which exposed disturbing patterns of abuse at one of Kenya’s most respected national schools, TSC has since sent Ayiro on a 30-day suspension, effective from July 15, 2025.
Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok had called for Ayiro’s immediate interdiction and arrest last week, signaling a potential criminal investigation.
Peter Ayiro sent on suspension
TSC is, however, a constitutionally independent commission and does not report to the Ministry of Education.
In the suspension issued through a letter by Acting TSC Chief Executive Officer Evaleen Mitei, the teacher is alleged to have breached multiple provisions of the Teachers Service Commission Act, Regulation 141 of the Code of Regulations for Teachers (CORT), and Clause 22 of the Code of Conduct and Ethics by allegedly engaging in what the CEO termed as acts that amount to professional misconduct.
He is also accused of engaging in immoral behaviour involving learners at the school.
“Due to the gravity of these allegations and the need to conduct independent and impartial investigations into the matter, and pursuant to the provisions of Regulation 136 of the CORT, the Commission has decided to send you on Compulsory Leave for 30 days with effect from July 15, 2025,” reads part of the letter.

TSC said it will inform the teacher of the outcome once investigations are complete and assured that the matter will be handled following due process as outlined in existing regulations.
Ayiro will receive his full salary and allowances during the suspension. According to the commission, the teacher will be informed of the outcome of the investigations as soon as they are completed.
TSC acts after uproar
The scandal has ignited nationwide outrage, raising urgent questions about student safety, institutional accountability, and systemic failures in Kenya’s education system.
The suspension comes days after PS Bitok called for the arrest and prosecution of the teacher accused of grooming students for sexual relationships.

The PS said the Ministry of Education, in consultation with TSC and other stakeholders of the prestigious school, had resolved to have immediate action taken against the teacher.
“That teacher is going to be punished and interdicted. We have talked to TSC and all other stakeholders to ensure that he is arrested. No teacher has any business pursuing inappropriate relationships with learners. Any breach of trust will be met with swift disciplinary and legal action,” PS Bitok said.
“We are committed to upholding learner safety and dignity in all educational institutions… including not just Alliance Girls but every school in this country.”
A group of former AGHS students last week staged peaceful demonstrations to protest against the alleged sexual abuse.
While protesting outside the school’s main gate, the alumni demanded immediate action from the TSC to root out sexual predators within the school.
