The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has announced scholarship opportunities in the Assistive Technology (AT) Program for five courses set to commence in September 2024.
In a notice on Wednesday July 10, 2024, KMTC said priority will be given to qualified candidates seeking to advance their careers in rehabilitation through the select five specialized programs offered by the college.
“The Assistive Technology (AT) Program within the Ministry of Health with support from AT Scale is pleased to announce exciting scholarship opportunities for individuals seeking to advance their careers in rehabilitation. These scholarships are available in 5 specialized program areas offered in Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) as shown below,” read part of the notice.
According to KMTC, the courses to be catered for by the scholarships include Higher Diploma in Ophthalmology and Cataract Surgery, Higher Diploma in Audiology and Hearing Care Technology, and Higher Diploma in Orthopedic Technology Specialization in Prosthetics/Orthotics programs.

Ophthalmology Advanced Refraction and Low Vision, Higher Diploma in Speech and Language Therapy, and Higher Diploma in Low Vision and Assistive Technology are also on offer under the scholarships program.
Details of the KMTC Scholarships
The medical college stated that candidates who meet listed requirements will be prioritized. Among the groups to be prioritized include County Government employees within Kenya and persons with work experience of at least two years at a county health facility (CRH or SCRH).

Candidates registered with the respective regulatory body for the basic training and those that have secured approval and release by the county will also be prioritized.
In the selection process, each candidate must go through a rigorous recruitment exercise to be awarded a scholarship.
KMTC stated that the candidates must first undergo reauthorization by the employer during the application.
After reauthorization, shortlisting and interviewing will be conducted by the training institution before selection by the AT program scholarships selection committee.

Further, candidates who are selected by the committee will proceed to admission by the training institution before the release and bonding by the employer as per the public service commission guidelines. Finally, enrollment by the training institution will then take place.

The medical college noted that the scholarships will cover for a full-time mode of programs’ study which takes a duration of 2 years.
Additionally, tuition fee and stipend for successful candidates will be catered for during the study period.
To apply for these training programs, interested applicants should visit the KMTC application portal for detailed information about the training programs through the institutional application portal link KMTC application portal.

The application deadline for the interested candidates is Thursday 31st July 2024.
