From driving strategic growth in multinational firms to leading mission-driven organizations, these women are shaping Kenya’s business landscape.
This article highlights six notable women who are making an impact as CEOs of major companies in Kenya.

Jane Karuku – East Africa Breweries Limited
Jane Karuku is the Group Managing Director and CEO of EABL, having been appointed on 1st January 2021.
Previously, she served as the Managing Director of Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) since July 2015.
She has over 20 years of management experience spanning FMCG and Non-Governmental organizations.
Before her appointment to KBL, she served as the President of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA). She has also previously held several senior positions in various companies, including Deputy Chief Executive and Secretary-General at Telkom Kenya, and Managing Director of Cadbury East and Central Africa.
Before that, Karuku worked with Farmers Choice Kenya and Kenya Cooperative Creameries. She has been a member of the board of Barclays Bank of Kenya and Junior Achievement-Kenya.

Jacqueline Mugo- Federation of Kenya Employers
Jacqueline Mugo is the Executive Director/CEO of the Federation of Kenya Employers and the Secretary-General of the Business Africa Employers Confederation.
Mugo also holds several positions of responsibility at the national level, including Board member of the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), the National Employment Authority (NEA), and the National Labour Board, among others.
She is also the first African woman to serve as President of the International Organization of Employers (IOE) and was unanimously elected to this role during the IOE General Assembly held on June 2, 2024, in Geneva, Switzerland, to serve a three-year term as the head of the 155-member organization, which is the world’s largest business network.

June Chepkemei
June Chepkemei is the Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Tourism Board.
She is experienced in Marketing, Brand, Communication, and Project management across various industries, including telecommunication and investment.
She holds a Master’s Degree in Communications Studies from Moi University, a Bachelor’s Degree in PR & Communications, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Marketing from The Chartered Institute of Marketing UK. Additionally, she has completed an Executive training program on Innovation from the Stanford Centre for Professional Development. Currently, she is pursuing a Ph.D. in Information Science.
June is also a member of the Public Relations Society of Kenya.

Anne Muraya – Deloitte East Africa
Anne Muraya is the CEO of Deloitte East Africa, overseeing the firm’s operations in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zambia, Malawi, and several other locations, including Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, and Somalia. Additionally, she represents the region on the Africa Executive Committee, which is responsible for setting the strategic direction and focus areas for the Africa business, as well as overseeing the implementation of that strategy.

Prior to her current role, Anne served as the East Africa Audit Leader and Managing Director for Responsible Business and Public Policy for Africa. During this time, she was also a member of the Deloitte Africa Audit & Assurance Executive Committee.
- Mercy Mwangangi- Social Health Authority
Dr. Mercy Mwangangi is a public health leader currently serving as the first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Social Health Authority (SHA).
She assumed this role in June 2025, after a competitive recruitment process.
In her current position, she is responsible for operationalizing the new social health insurance scheme, which has replaced the defunct National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF).
She previously served as the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Ministry of Health during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.
- Nancy Njau – Family Bank
Nancy Njau is the CEO and MD of Family Bank. She is a seasoned banker with over 22 years of extensive experience in strategic leadership and agile business transformation.
In addition, she has expertise in building high-performance teams, innovating client solutions, accelerating growth, managing assets and liabilities, credit management, sales, customer service, coaching, training, and mentorship.
